Portrait of John Foster, ASAI

A North Dakota native, John ran off to see the world at the age of 18. After studying French in Brussels, Belgium, he found that his curiosity had only just been aroused and headed to the East. He studied Japanese in Tokyo and then moved on to China and Chinese in the city of Tianjin. During this time, he picked up Italian as well. John received a Bachelor of Arts with honors from Minnesota State University.

While working for a high-end real estate firm in central London in 1997, he developed an appreciation for architecture and set about to photograph it for the company's publications. This work took him to Paris as well, where John was further impressed by contrasts in style. Eventually, his enthusiasm for photography, imaging, and web design turned into talent, and he found himself running the production department of a large commercial photography studio in Shanghai, China. While there, John developed the studio’s 3D division and became fascinated by this new technology.

A strong desire to leave behind the stink, smog, and stress of a large metropolis entered in, and so John decided to rejoin with family members now living in the Sun Valley area. He joined Williams | Partners Architects in 2007 and has since fallen easy prey to the lifestyle and beauty found in this region of Idaho.

John works with 3D modeling and rendering as well as drafting. His time is now mostly spent “translating” drawings and design ideas from the architects at the firm into visually “tangible” images which clients may better understand. He is extremely happy to work within this talented team and professional environment. John is a current member of the American Society of Architectural Illustrators.
